		<description>The custom XHTML 1.1 DTD allows us to add new modules and extend the extensible markup. I&#039;ve added several modules, including one to use the target attribute in anchor tags (to open links in a new window) although at the moment no links behave this way.

It&#039;s nice to have the option, though.

Mostly I needed to be able to add  and  elements to the markup for poems so that the pages would still validate.

I just like the flexibility of XHTML 1.1 (rather than 1.0 strict) and you can read more about those kinds of choices here in my Poetry X development log:
